What is it?
Counselling is the process of a person (the client) talking to a professional counsellor (therapist) to improve their mental health and well-being.
Therapy describes the various techniques that a therapist can use to help the client work through their issues.
In counselling, a person talks about how they are feeling and shares their experiences with a therapist in a safe space. This could be in-person, online, via telephone, or in some cases via email.
Types of therapy:
This can feel confusing as there are many different types of counselling, and I will outline some of the main approaches and explain what types I offer below.
What training should a counsellor have?
it is important that whoever you see is professionally trained. In the UK this means the therapist has a level 4 (or above) professional counselling qualification and is a member of a recognised professional therapy organisation, such as the BACP, ACC or UKCP. This ensures that they are competent, working to professional standards, and have the right qualifications. Please see the links below for further information.
